Description:

The AIX maintenance process creates a copy of the operating system during the upgrade. The MicroFocus Cobol license manager occasionally interprets this copy as an attempt to violate the license and disables the execution of any Cobol programs until the license database is rebuilt. The "apptrack" license management tool provided by the vendor uses an interactive dialogue which does not lend itself to scripted checking or repair of the license status. The number of servers updated in each cycle makes it infeasible to manually check the status of the license manager after the upgrade. The license database corruption only occurs occasionally, but has happened enough times to warrant a proactive response.

Workaround:

01/26/2016 16:58:20 - Dave Jones (Workaround) Automatically check each AIX server after maintenance for a corrupted Cobol license manager and repair when needed. IT Technical Support will write a script which will run at the conclusion of each upgrade. This script tests the integrity of the Cobol license database. Repairing a corrupted database remains a manual process.
