FileVault

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Open Security & Privacy
  3. Click on the FileVault tab
  4. Click on Turn on FileVault (be patient, this can take a VERY long time)
  5. Once FileVault is on, install the FileVault encryption agent from the iTechXpress encryption page

Naming for  AD & Encryption

To name an OSX machine to report correctly in AD & encryption, open a terminal and as admin run:

  • scutil –-set ComputerName “machinename”
  • scutil –-set HostName “machinename”
  • scutil –-set LocalHostName “machinename”

Note that naming conventions determine in which container the OSX machine will show (e.g. "IT-machinename" will show in the admin/it container).

Joining AD

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Open Users & Groups
  3. Choose Login Options
  4. Click on Network Account Server (Edit)
  5. Click the Plus Sign "+"
  6. For server, enter AD.LOUISVILLE.EDU
  7. Client Computer ID should be pre-filled with the "machinename" you entered above
  8. AD Admin User: Your ULink ID
  9. AD Admin Password: Your ULink password
  10. Click OK
  11. Should connect & return to the server window, click DONE
  12. Close System Preferences
