Active Directory (AD) Naming/Joining for OSX
FileVault
- Open System Preferences
- Open Security & Privacy
- Click on the FileVault tab
- Click on Turn on FileVault (be patient, this can take a VERY long time)
Naming for AD & Encryption
To name an OSX machine to report correctly in AD & encryption, open a terminal :
- scutil –-set ComputerName “machinename”
- scutil –-set HostName “machinename”
- scutil –-set LocalHostName “machinename”
Note that naming conventions determine in which container the OSX machine will show (e.g. "IT-machinename" will show in the admin/it container).
Joining AD
- Open System Preferences
- Open Users & Groups
- Choose Login Options
- Click on Network Account Server (Edit)
- Click the Plus Sign "+"
- For server, enter AD.LOUISVILLE.EDU
- Client Computer ID should be pre-filled with the "machinename" you entered above
- AD Admin User: Your ULink ID
- AD Admin Password: Your ULink password
- Click OK
- Should connect & return to the server window, click DONE
- Close System Preferences
