SEE Non-AD Cannot Log In
PROBLEM: User has Symantec Endpoint Encryption (Non-AD) client. After installing, they are not able to log in without calling the helpdesk for a key. The client does not seem to accept any username or password combinations. NOT FOR PGP
FULL PROBLEM/ANALYSIS: Usually this issue occurs because systems that are not joined to the domain hide the actual userID that the user uses to log in.
SOLUTION: Once the user has logged in successfully with helpdesk assistance, have them open a command prompt “Start > search bar for “cmd” > select cmd from the search results”.
Type the command “whoami”
The output of that command will give the real username of the individual that is logged in to the system.
Everything after the “\” (backslash) result of whoami is the username they need to use.
Use that username in conjunction with the password used to log in to windows to get past the encryption pre-boot screen.
