UofL Visitor wireless network FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions for the ulvisitor wireless network
Do I need to have a sponsor?
No, ulvisitor does not require being sponsored. All that is needed is an email address.
How does ulvisitor wireless work?
The ulvisitor wireless network allows campus guests quick and easy access to the Internet. Visitors simply choose ulvisitor SSID, open a web browser, enter a valid email address, agree to the Acceptable Use Policy and you are immediately able to browse the Internet.
How long does guest access last?
Connections last for six hours. However, during anytime of the 6 hour session there is a period of 30 minutes of inactivity the session will be automatically terminated. Visitors are required once again to enter a valid email address and agree to the Acceptable Use Policy upon reconnecting after a session times out due to inactivity or after a session reaches 6 hours.
Can I extend access time?
Access time cannot be extended during the current session. However, after six hours, visitors are required once again to enter a valid email address and agree to the Acceptable Use Policy. Visitors will then be able to continue using the ulvisitor network.
I am visiting UofL. How do I get on the wireless network?
To access ulvisitor you will need to choose the ulvisitor SSID, open a web browser, enter a valid email address and agree to the Acceptable Use Policy.
What can I access with ulvisitor wireless?
The ulvisitor wireless network provides connectivity for general Internet use. Use of the ulvisitor wireless network does not allow access to UofL resources that require on-campus connections, such as but not limited to library resources, uofl printers, protected servers and services that are provided strictly for UofL affiliated students, faculty and staff members. Resources that may be accessed are those normally accessed from outside the school with web browsers.
Why won't my browser redirect to the ulvisitor AUP page?
If your home page is set to a secure web page (a page with a url that starts with "https://"), then ulvisitor wireless will be unable to redirect your browser to our login page. Changing your home page setting to a non-protected page should correct this problem. Browser redirection to the login page is known to not work if either of the following are true: 1) If the website you are trying to visit does not exist or is offline; 2) If you are trying to visit an SSL encrypted site. However, once authenticated, the SSL sites will work; this is only a limitation on the redirect to the login page.
I'm having problems with my browser while trying to attach to the ulvisitor network.
Clearing a web browser's cache can correct problems you may be having with your web browser while on the ulvisitor network. See the Clearing Browser Cache and Cookies below for platform-specific instructions for clearing your web browser's cache and cookies.
