iOS GlobalProtect app version 5.0 upgrade

  • GlobalProtect versions 4.1.x and older are not compatible with Apple’s new iOS 12.
  • We advise users to delay upgrading to iOS 12 until they have installed GlobalProtect 5.0
  • GlobalProtect App 5.0 is now available on the iTunes store, and will fully support iOS 10 or greater.
  • We recommend that iOS 12 users uninstall GlobalProtect app 4.1.x before installing GlobalProtect app 5.0 on their iOS devices.
  • The Older 4.1 version of the GlobalProtect App has been renamed to GlobalProtect Legacy.

Use the following steps to install the GlobalProtect app 5.0:

  1. Take note of your portal address as you will need to re-enter it on the new GlobalProtect app. It should be vpn.louisville.edu.
  2. Uninstall previous versions of the GlobalProtect app (4.1.x and earlier releases) from your iOS device.
  3. Launch the App Store.
  4. Search for GlobalProtect. The old app has been renamed to GlobalProtect Legacy.
  5. Tap GET to initiate GlobalProtect app installation.
  6. When prompted, Install the app.
  7. After GlobalProtect app 5.0 installs successfully, launch the app.
  8.  A notification permission dialog appears. Select "Allow" so GlobalProtect can send you notifications.

  9.  Enter the GlobalProtect portal address, vpn.louisville.edu

  10.  A notification permission dialog appears. Select "Allow" so GlobalProtect can add VPN configurations to your device.

    This setting enables GlobalProtect to filter and monitor network activity on the endpoint when you are using the VPN.

  11.  Enter your Username and Password

  12.  A notification dialog appears, Cannot Verify Server Identity.

    Tap Detail and make sure that the certificate information matches:

    Issued to: *.louisville.edu

    Issued by: GlobalSign Organization Validation CA - SHA256 - G2

    If yes then tap OK, then Continue

  13.  When the home screen appears, verify that your connection has established successfully.

    If the connection is successful, the home screen displays the CONNECTED state.
