Accounts - Change Ownership of Service and Sponsored Accounts

Need to change who owns a service account or sponsored account? We’ve got you covered. Whether the owner left the University, or no longer wants to manage the account, you can change the owner of a service account or sponsored account via the self-service portal.

 

Please note that to change ownership of a service account or a sponsored account, you must be the current owner of the account.

Change Ownership of a Service Account

To change the owner of a service account, follow these steps. Please note that you must be the current owner of the service account to change the owner of the service account. Please note that this change is an administrative change and does not affect who has delegated access to the Service Account's email. The new owner will need to log into the Service Account's email and update the delegated users as needed.

  • Enter your user ID, and click “NEXT”.

  • Enter your password, and click “NEXT”.

  • Click the “USERS” tab.

  • On the new screen, under Step 1, search for and select the service account whose ownership you want to change.

  • The service account information will appear once you select the account in Step 1. The current owner of the service account will be displayed as the “Supervisor” on the right hand side of the screen. Scroll down to Step 2.

  • On Step 2, select “Update personal information” from the drop-down menu. The option to update personal information will appear in Step 3.

  • On Step 3, click “Supervisor” on the right side of the screen. A pop-up window will appear.

  • Search for and select the user you want to be the new owner of the service account. You can search by last name, first name, department, position title, or primary email. Once you find the user you want to make the new owner, check the box next to their name; and hit the “ADD” button at the bottom of the window.

 

Both you and the user you selected will be listed at the top of the window under “Current Managers”.

 

  • Remove yourself as the owner by clicking the X next to your name under “Current Managers”. If you do not remove yourself, you will remain one of the owners of the service account.

  • Click “DONE”, and scroll down to Step 4.

 

  • On Step 4, put a comment in the comment box. Then, press “SUBMIT REQUEST”. A confirmation window will appear.

 

  • Refresh the page, and search for the service account. Select the service account, and the new owner will appear in the service owner’s information.

 Changing Ownership of a Sponsored Account

To change the owner of a sponsored account, follow these steps. Please note that you must be the current owner of the sponsored account to change the owner of the sponsored account:

 

 

  • Enter your user ID, and click “NEXT”.

  • Enter your password, and click “NEXT”.

 

  • Click the “USERS” tab.

  • On the new screen, under Step 1, search for and select the sponsored account whose ownership you want to change.

  • The sponsored account information will appear once you select the account in Step 1. The current owner of the sponsored account will be displayed as the “Supervisor” on the right hand side of the screen. Scroll down to Step 2.

 

  • On Step 2, select “Update personal information” from the drop-down menu. The option to update personal information will appear in Step 3.

  • On Step 3, click “Supervisor” on the right side of the screen in the “Manager’s Information” box. A pop-up window will appear.

  • Search for and select the user you want to be the new owner of the sponsored account. You can search by last name, first name, department, position title, or primary email. Once you find the user you want to make the new owner, check the box next to their name; and hit the “ADD” button at the bottom of the window.

Both you and the user you selected will be listed at the top of the window under “Current Managers”.

  • Click “DONE”. In the “Manager’s Information” box, the new owner of the sponsored account will appear. Scroll down to Step 4.

  • On Step 4, put a comment in the comment box. Then, press “SUBMIT REQUEST”. A confirmation window will appear.

 

  • Refresh the page, and search for the sponsored account. Select the sponsored account, and the new owner will appear in the sponsored account’s information.
